The First Week: A Review

Friday marked the end of my first week with Kellogg. I don't really find it fun to enter a completely new environment with all new people and so many unknowns. I like my comfort zones. However, after spending a week with my new co-workers, I don't think I have much to worry about...they're flat out wacky! And that's good for me.

I now have a Jeep Liberty, and that's pretty sweet! Though everyone tells me you should stop naming your cars in high school, I get very attached to my vehicles and have an inescapable need to name them (Harvey the Corsica, Geri the Uplander, Homer the Odyssey, etc). So, despite the retorts of friends and strangers, I am naming my Jeep, Jerry the Jeep. Not to be confused with Geri the Uplander (named as an abbreviation for geriatrics), Jerry is more for gramatical alliteration. Those are big words, I don't expect the haters to understand them.

I got the full tour of the office and got to meet most of the 60 employees in the office. Jumping from an office of 4 to 60 is quite difficult, especially with my penchant for forgetting people's names. Thankfully, every cube and office has a name plate...

I was also hazed and initiated at 4:30 PM on Monday. There is a small room with 2 foosball tables and a fan (it gets hot when the competition heats up!). They play with weird rules: no spinning and 4 balls at a time. First...I suck at foosball. Secondly, I suck worse when I can't spin. I lead me and my boss to a humiliating loss the first day. And in this room of competitive glory, the losers get a nice heaping of razzing. Usually, it takes the form of a skunk picture being placed on your door. I'm going to love this job!

So all in all, the first week was pretty great. I can't wait to dig in a start contributing more (both to work and to the foosball games).

Frank Broyles / Sports Illustrated Signing

Sports Illustrated is currently selling a tribute to the SEC to celebrate the SEC's 75th anniversary. Frank Broyles has agreed to an in-store signing of these issues. If you're a fan of the on-the-way-out Athletic Director and Arkansas god, drop by and get a copy of the magazine and get it signed by the man himself.

When: Friday, November 2nd.
Time: 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM
Where: Wal-Mart on 6th street. Get directions.

Also, there will be a limited number of signed poster-sized covers (pictured) that can be purchased for $10. All sales from the posters will go to help build a new gym for a local elementary school.

Why Me?

First week at the new job. It's going great.

Until now.

First of all, I despise using the bathroom at the office, especially here since it's a 1-seater shared by all employees (male & female). It's right next to the break area and community printer. Enough said about that.

So I go to use the restroom before a meeting...a long visit to the bathroom. I go to flush and...nothing happens. Zilch. No flush. Not like a "it's stopped up and can't flush"...but a "I pulled the handle and the thing is dead".

I asked a guy who we called when stuff broke...he's calling the people now. I had to put an "Out of Order" sticky note on the door.

Why me??

Out of the Nest!

I have finally leapt from the nest (haha...nest...nestle)! My last day with Nestlé was Thursday. Though it was extremely sad to say goodbye to co-workers and friends, I'm stoked about my new job at Time-Warner. It's a great move to another great company.

Since I had to leave my mini-van at work (company car), Allison came and got me in my new car. She also got a baby sitter, so we went to Bonefish Grill with some co-workers and friends to celebrate my escape...I mean, my transition. I knocked down several of the Bang, Bang Shrimp, and a couple of glasses of Pinot Gris wine. The best part? John Rinaldi (co-worker) picked up the majority of the tab...specifically, he put it on his corporate American Express...so Nestlé bought dinner. Ended up costing each individual about $14, which is crazy cheap for all the food and beverages we got. Thanks Nestlé (John).

Now for a quiet weekend at home with my girls...wait...there's no such thing as quiet at my house anymore. At least it's a weekend at home with my girls. :)
