Pushing Daisies & Chuck

So far, this season's new TV shows have kind of sucked. I deleted Cavemen from the DVR after about 3 minutes of watching it. Absolutely painful. Life is pretty good, but not gripping. Private Practice might turn out decently, but isn't super so far. Journeyman is intriguing, but probably won't last a full season.

The only new show I've been impressed with so far are Pushing Daisies and Chuck. Chuck is really funny and the characters are quite enjoyable. The plot is also really good (chuck is now an inter-agency super-computer that the government must now protect from spies while he continues to work at a Best-Buy knockoff).

Pushing Daisies is just plain unique. I'm not sure I can explain it well enough to do it justice. The concept is extraordinary and the characters are easy to like. I recommend watching it. It's sure to come off as weird aPublish Postnd dumb to many, but to you weirdos out there, it's your cup of tea.

More Sweet Tea for Melinda

Ok, everyone and their dog and their dog's worms are going to be up in arms over Melinda getting kicked off American Idol tonight. In my opinion, it's the best thing for everyone. Here's why:

Melinda is extremely established, both with her performance on AI and her history / connections in Nashville. She'll be off and running with a recording contract before her plane lands in Nashville.

Blake doesn't need to win American Idol, and I don't think he wants to win it all. If you haven't noticed, he's a bit eclectic in his musical tastes / styles. It doesn't really fit well with the AI image, which makes it even more impressive he's in the finale. If he wins, he's bound to produce a crappy album that is watered down by the AI producers and studio. So he loses in the long run if he wins it all. Probably best if he wins second.

Jordin stands to profit the most from winning. She's young, and needs the contract and advice from more experienced people, which she'll get automatically from winning. Besides, she's much more diverse in her singing styles / talent than either Blake or Melinda and can easily make any album to the AI producers want and make it work for her.

American Idol: A Friends-Eye View

My friend Blake won a trip to see American Idol live! He won through his local Fox station. He leaves today (Monday) and gets to see both the Tuesday and Wednesday shows. From his guesstimate, he'll possibly be sitting on the 4th or 5th row. Insane!

To top it all off, it's freaking Bon Jovi who'll be mentoring and performing! He'll also get to see 2 Idols get the boot this week, since they didn't kick off anyone last week. My vote is for Phil and Lakisha. My final 3 are Jordin, Melinda, & Blake. At least, I hope that's the way it works out.

Good luck to you, Blake. Get me a shirt while you're there, Punk.

Ding Dong the Wicked Witch is Dead!

I literally jumped off the couch, did the Carlton, Running Man, and the African Anteater Ritual when they said our token she-male was going home!

Commentators can talk all they want about why they think Sanjaya would have / could have won American Idol and why they think he was generating votes that kept him on the show up until now. However, there is always one of those contestants:

• Season 1: (didn't watch, so I don't know)
  
• Season 2: Carmen Rasmusen
• Season 3: John Stevens
• Season 4: Scott Savol
• Season 5: Kevin Covias / Bucky Covington
  
• Season 6: Sanjaya Malakar

It's like each season, the writer's forget that there were some awful voices that remained and completely dumbfounded the world. In time, the voters always come around and start taking the competition seriously and begin voting as if it were a singing competition. We now have our final six.

I have no words to describe American Idol tonight.

Melinda Doolittle rocks. At the end of tonight's show (she was the last performance), Simon asked her is she really is as nice as she seems. A few nights ago, I was watching The Soup on VH1. They did a mock infomercial on the Melinda Doolittle School of Humility. Here it is in all its raging genius:



On another note, I made the worst mistake in my entire life (and probably here on out): I accidentally voted for Sanjaya. I'm so sorry. I have asked God for forgiveness (He's getting back to me on that one, by the way) and ask your forgiveness also.

American Idol

American Idol is back and rolling! 5 hours of Idol this week...lots of late nights full of great TV. Tonight, in fact, I have 2 hours of Lost (last week's episode, too) and 2 hours of Idol to watch. I'm looking forward to it! Of course, it's all manageable with a DVR. 2 hours = 1 1/2 hours of true TV, especially for Idol.

Movies & More!

Last weekend, Josh and I went to see Apacalypto. It ended up being a really good movie. Not great, but pretty darn good. All the reviews said is was terribly brutal and gruesome. Honestly, I never had to turn away at any point in the movie. Though parts were pretty brutal, I was expecting much worse. The was one scene where a man's face lost a battle to an angry jaguar, but that was about the worst of it all. And, it was a pretty awesome scene!

However, during the previews before the movie started, I saw a movie trailer that basically killed all desire to see any movie but that one. Frank Miller's "300" is coming out next March and it looks absolutely amazing! Frank Miller also wrote "Sin City", which is a fantastic movie! So, after the trailer was over, I pretty much didn't care to see a movie except for 300. It's going to rock! Go see the trailer, you'll be blown away (more so if you're a guy).

Eragon opens this weekend, and it looks pretty great, too. I've been wanting to read the book before seeing the movie, so I bought the book (Allison's early Christmas present to me) and am halfway done with it. It's pretty good. Very Lord of the Ring-ish.

LOST

Holy mackerel! I'm so super excited about LOST's season premier tonight! Starting off with a little Catfish Hole for dinner, then an hour of LOST with some close friends...what more could a man ask for?

Actually, there is one more thing THIS man could ask for: that the baby won't come during the above adventures. After 9:00 PM, the baby is welcome to start the evacuation process.

NBC's Heroes

Ok, I just finished watching the season premier of Heroes on NBC. And I'm totally hooked! In fact, I haven't been this hooked since LOST began! My excitement levels for this show rival that of LOST and Alias' first season. It's absolutely amazing!

It's a little X-Men-ish in nature. Basically, a slew of individuals begin realizing they have "special" powers. These manifest themselves through teleportation, rapid physical regeneration, prophetic painting/artistry, the ability to fly, and more. Per some of the dialogue, this is caused by evolution / natural selection for the next breed of human kind. In future weeks, the characters will become interwoven and combine to stop a world catastrophe from occuring.

To be honest, this was easily the most well-done opener I have ever seen. The character development was well-captured and disclosed the perfect amount for you to connect with the characters, but not enough to over-expose them. The flow and logic behind the episode was perfectly done.

I really can't say enough about this show! It's the first time since LOST that I've been this excited about a show! If you missed it and would like to see the show, NBC is re-playing the episode tomorrow night (Tuesday 9/26). Give it a try...it's amazing!
